About

What is Conciliar Post?

Conciliar Post is an online community and archive devoted to thoughtful Christian reflection. Since its founding, the site has published theological conversations, reflections on Christianity, reviews, and commentary on culture and current events from a Christian perspective.

Today, Conciliar Post serves both as an archive of more than a decade of writing and as an occasional home for new essays and conversations. Our hope remains the same: to provide a place where Christians from different traditions can think carefully, speak charitably, and learn from one another as we grow toward God.

What Does “Conciliar” Mean?

The word conciliar comes from the English word council a gathering of people for deliberation and ultimately from the Latin consilium, meaning assembly or consultation. Historically, the term has been associated with the great ecumenical councils of the Christian tradition, where Christians gathered to wrestle together with questions of faith, doctrine, and practice. The name Conciliar Post reflects that spirit. This site has always sought to be a place where Christians from different backgrounds can gather around important questions, take one another seriously, and pursue truth together with humility and charity.

What is the Mission of Conciliar Post?

The mission of Conciliar Post is to encourage meaningful dialogue across Christian traditions in ways that inform, encourage, and challenge.

Over the years, our authors have represented a wide variety of Christian traditions while sharing the conviction that truth matters, charity matters, and faithful disagreement is possible. At its best, Conciliar Post has sought to create space for the genuine exchange of ideas rather than simply another venue for argument or ideological reinforcement.

We believe every human being possesses inherent worth because each person is created in the image of God (Genesis 1:26). For that reason, we seek truth tempered by grace, remembering that none of us sees perfectly and that all Christians remain fellow sojourners seeking greater faithfulness to God.

While the pace of publication is quieter than it once was, that mission continues to shape both our archives and the new pieces that occasionally appear here.

What Topics Do You Discuss?

Over more than a decade, Conciliar Post authors have written on a remarkably wide range of subjects. You may find an article on the problem of evil alongside a discussion of the Inklings, a reflection on liturgy next to commentary on politics, or a work of theology alongside a book or film review.

Our archives include writing on subjects such as:

  • Art and Literature
  • Christian Traditions
  • Church History
  • Culture and Current Events
  • Ethics
  • Life and Faith
  • Politics
  • Reviews
  • Scripture
  • Theology and Spirituality

The site also contains Round Tables and Dialogues in which writers from differing Christian traditions engaged a common question or responded directly to one another.

New articles may not follow these older formats, but the goal remains the same: thoughtful Christian reflection on questions worth considering.

Who Writes for Conciliar Post?

Over the years, Conciliar Post has featured writers from a wide variety of Christian traditions, denominations, academic backgrounds, ministries, and walks of life.

Historically, contributors were asked to affirm the Apostles’ Creed and to engage others thoughtfully and charitably. Those commitments remain representative of the theological center and conversational spirit of the site.

Articles reflect the views of their individual authors and should not be understood as official statements of Conciliar Post or of the Christian traditions with which those authors identify. Likewise, categorization by tradition generally reflects an author’s own identification rather than formal approval by a church or denominational body.

Because Conciliar Post now functions primarily as an archive, some author biographies, affiliations, or links may reflect information that was current when an article was originally published.

Is Conciliar Post Still Publishing?

Yes, occasionally.

For many years, Conciliar Post maintained a regular publishing schedule and a broad community of contributors. Today, our focus is primarily on preserving that extensive archive and keeping it accessible.

From time to time, however, new essays, reflections, reviews, and conversations may still be published. We are less concerned with maintaining a constant stream of content than with sharing something worthwhile when there is something worth saying.

How Do I Write for Conciliar Post?

Conciliar Post is no longer operating with the same regular contributor model or publication schedule that characterized its earlier years. That said, we remain open to thoughtful inquiries and potential contributions that fit the spirit of the site. If you would like to get in touch, please visit our Contact page.
